Mission

The Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) is well-equipped to become one of Germany’s new elite universities. The TUD has a long tradition of being a university of academic excellence. It is rooted in a region that has always strived for the very best and has continuously improved. It has always attracted top talents and has produced a number of prominent academic personalities.

In the second round of the German Universities Excellence Initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Research Foundation, the TUD wants to build on that sound basis and believes in its abilities to succeed also in the third line of funding – namely the institutional strategies required to promote top-level university research, the so-called future concepts.

DRESDEN-concept: The idea and what’s behind it

In order to be successful, the TUD builds on quality, its integral power, and interaction: These are the strengths and opportunities of the Dresden region. The TUD covers a wide range of courses of study that is unique in Germany: Engineering, Mathematics and Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, together with Medicine are the faculties that offer this impressive scale of courses.

The DRESDEN-concept reflects this interactive and vivid network – and DRESDEN stands for “Dresden Research and Education Synergies for the Development of Excellence and Novelty”.

The DRESDEN-concept is a research alliance of the TUD together with the strong partnership of the research and culture areas resulting in the ideal way to communicate the excellence of research in Dresden. In particular, the co-operation of all DRESDEN-concept partners is aimed at the development and use of synergies in research, education, infrastructure, and administration. Partners co-ordinate strategies to support Dresden’s leading areas and identify new emerging scientific areas. The DRESDEN-concept alliance also works on a joint initiative to attract top talents and to convince the best to come to Dresden.
