For a large part of the world’s population daily life without information technology would appear inconceivable. The underlying semiconductor technology has become the most important engine for progress of our times. Developing it further and primarily the exploration of complementary technologies and concepts for highly-efficient data processing and for extremely fast and secure data transfers are the key objectives of the Information Technology and Microelectronics section. In strong interdisciplinary research projects novel solutions are developed, from materials up to complex, heterogeneous systems, which also integrate biological concepts such as the self-assembly of molecules. This section bundles the fundamental research in this area as a necessary addition at Europe’s largest semiconductor production location.
