Accelerating Very Heavy Ions

The accelerators at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) provide ions – that are electrically charged particles – of most of the chemical elements available for experiments in materials research over a wide energy range. What is quite unique in the world is the fact that even very heavy metallic ions – beside monatomic also polyatomic ions with several hundred atomic mass units – are...[more]

TU Dresden and HZDR strike up new accelerator technology partnership

The chair for RF engineering at Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden) and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) recently embarked on a new joint effort with the goal of developing improved diagnostic tools for use in accelerators. Using a novel compact miniature spectrometer, the researchers are planning on measuring terahertz waves at ELBE, the HZDR’s electron accelerator. Thanks...[more]

One year of excellence at TU Dresden: 1,300 applications for Open Topic Tenure Track Professorships

A year ago, the TU Dresden was identified as a “university of excellence”. This is the summary of the Rector of the TU Dresden, Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen: “That this TU Dresden was identified as a “university of excellence” last year is a recognition both of our achievements so far and our challenges for the future. These are challenges that we set ourselves eagerly. The implementation of our...[more]

Loss-reduced laser cutting of electrical sheets

In electrical machines excellent electro-magnetic properties are required for loss-reduced energy conversion of electrical into kinetic energy and vice versa. Due to their high flexibility, electrical sheet laser processing techniques become more and more important. No additional costs and setup times are caused, a fact, which facilitates short change-of-product times. Furthermore the engineer...[more]
